AMIGOMAN™ is a Strong Ave. Studios comic book property, created and produced by Anthony “AO” Oropeza. Originally created in the mid-90’s for the 18-35 years old comic book reader, AO realized that libraries and schools were interested in the concept of the character being Latino, bilingual, raised by a single mother and growing up in a lower-middle class neighborhood. So the design of the book changed. It was then written for the young reader but Oropeza realized that not all young readers read the same way and at the same level, so he decided to create different AMIGOMAN books for different grade levels and reading levels – thus, the AMIGO-Reading Rating System was created.

Since then, AO and Strong Ave. Studios produce 5 different types of books for young readers Preschool – 8th grade in both English and Spanish.

Realizing the impact on the AMIGOMAN character, story and that it was in both English and Spanish, AO then found even more of a reason to keep producing the AMIGOMAN books – to promote reading and education in the school systems.  It has not been an easy task to generate funds to create books and pay other Creatives for their hard work, but it happens.   The journey has been quite a learning experience and seeing the students smile when they realize they get their very own AMIGOMAN comic book makes it all worth it.

AO is not only the Creator, he is the Writer, Story Board Artist, Art Directer, Character Designer, Web Designer, Graphic Design, Social Media Manager and  Class Room Speaker.
